Security Monitoring

Audio Warning and Remote Deterrence

A live voice naming what someone is doing, on the site they are standing on, ends a surprising number of incidents before they develop.

Remote deterrence works because it removes the assumption of anonymity. Someone testing a shutter at midnight expects an empty building. A spoken warning that describes them, their clothing, and their location changes the situation immediately.

This is an optional service and it is not available on every system. It requires speakers or a two-way audio capability on your CCTV installation, and it requires your written authorisation before any operator speaks through your site.

Free CCTV Risk Review

Test this service on your own cameras

Three nights of live human monitoring, a written CCTV risk review, and reports covering what was observed. No new equipment required.

01 / 02

How the capability is used

  • Live spoken warnings issued by the operator watching the feed
  • Two-way audio conversation where the hardware supports it
  • Warnings directed at people entering restricted zones
  • Warnings to individuals loitering near entrances or vehicles
  • Pre-closing and closing-hour announcements
  • Instructions to leave the premises, according to your approved wording
02 / 02

Requirements before this can be enabled

  • Your CCTV system must support audio output or two-way audio
  • You must authorise audio intervention in writing
  • Approved wording and escalation triggers must be agreed in advance
  • Local privacy, recording, and communication laws must be followed
  • Signage or disclosure may be required in your jurisdiction

Service Conditions

Availability

Audio intervention is not available on every camera system. Compatibility is confirmed during the CCTV risk review, and we will tell you if your installation cannot support it.

Legal compliance

Audio monitoring and intervention must comply with applicable privacy and consent laws in your jurisdiction. Netex Security will not enable audio where doing so would place you outside those laws.

Outcome

Deterrence changes the odds; it does not guarantee them. Some individuals leave immediately and some do not, which is why audio is used alongside your escalation protocol rather than instead of it.

Full conditions applying to every Netex Security service are set out on the Service Limitations page.

Questions

Questions about audio warning and remote deterrence

Do I need special speakers?

You need a system with audio output. Some IP cameras include a speaker, some sites use a separate public-address system tied into the CCTV platform, and some systems have no audio path at all. We confirm which applies to you during the review.

Can operators speak to customers during trading hours?

That is a very different use case with different legal implications, and it would need to be agreed explicitly, disclosed appropriately, and permitted in your jurisdiction. Most clients use audio only outside trading hours.

Is the audio recorded?

That depends on your system and your local law. Recording of audio is often regulated more strictly than video, and we follow your written instruction and the applicable rules.
